Lip Healing Process & Care

Day 1
Swelling & Weeping
You will notice swelling and weeping for the first 24 hours.
The weeping and swelling is due to lymphatic fluid. Your immune response has been activated and this is all very normal.
Use a sterile saline wipe to remove the build up of fluid for the first 1-3 hours after service.
After 3 hours, use a mild soap wipe to very gently and thoroughly wipe the lips and being using Aquaphor to keep the lips moisturized.
Applying Aquaphor frequently and as needed to prevent the lips from drying out. Use a mild soap wipe before every application of Aquaphor.
Keeping the lips clean before applying Aquaphor will help prevent and reduce risk.
Preventing dryness will minimize scabbing.
You may feel soreness and sensitivity as the numbing product wears off for the rest of the day. Swelling and soreness will gradually subside as the day goes on.
Avoid food that is too hot/too cold or too spicy.

Day 2
Clean & Hydrated
Do Not let your lips dry out.
Continue to apply Aquaphor frequently and as needed to prevent the lips from drying out. Use a mild soap wipe before every application of Aquaphor.
There may still be slight swelling and tenderness.
Remember
For the next week or so
~No facial treatments for the next 2 weeks.
~No make up until the peeling and shedding has stopped.
~No sun for 10 days. Limit exposure as much as possible.
~No spicy food.
~Be careful with temperature of food.
~No Botox or fillers for 6 weeks.

Day 3 & 4
Dry
You will notice your lips becoming extremely dry.
Do Not pick
Most clients will begin to feel extremely self-conscious at this stage of the healing. This is very normal.
Trust the process and continue the moisturize.
Continue to apply Aquaphor frequently and as needed to prevent the lips from drying out. Use a mild soap wipe before every application of Aquaphor.
Wearing a face mask when out in public helps relieve the self-conscious feeling.

Day 5, 6 & 7
Peeling & Flaking
This is the worst part of the process
Do Not pick
Allow your lips the shed the peeling skin naturally. Picking can result in pulling out color and healing tissue. Resulting in patchy pigmentation and even scarring.
Most clients will begin to feel extremely self-conscious at this stage of the healing. This is very normal. Trust the process and continue the moisturize.
Continue to apply Aquaphor frequently and as needed to prevent the lips from drying out. Use a mild soap wipe before every application of Aquaphor.
Wearing a face mask when out in public helps relieve the self-conscious feeling.
Remember, its only for a few days. the peeling and flaking will continue to heal and get better.

Day 8, 9 & 10
Regrowth & New Tissue
Recommended: Continue to keep your lips hydrated. This will keep them soft and help restore the texture and the tissue.
Use your preferred lip balm to prevent the lips from drying out. Apply Aquaphor as needed if needed. Limit sun exposure.
Once the lip tissue has restored and all the peeling and shedding has finished, you may wear makeup.
Wear a balm with SPF before any sun exposure. This will minimize fading.
Everyone’s body and healing times are going to be slightly different. Some will heal a little faster and some will need a little more time.
It takes about 30 days for the lip tissue to fully recover.
